About the position

As a Senior Data Engineer on the Data & Analytics team at NBCUniversal, you will be responsible for building data pipelines and applications that support strategic decision-making in the media industry. This role emphasizes backend engineering and requires collaboration with business partners to develop analytical tools and solutions. You will work in an agile environment, adapting to changing product specifications while ensuring compliance and best practices in data architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Build data pipelines to land, profile, and store multiple internal and external datasets.
  • Develop applications that surface data to support business partners' strategic decision-making.
  • Contribute to the overall Data Product roadmap by collaborating with business partners to understand their challenges.
  • Leverage prototyping methodologies to design creative business solutions using a broad toolset of technologies.
  • Educate business partners on architecture, capabilities, best practices, and solutions for future enhancements.
  • Analyze business requirements, source systems, and transformation requirements for reporting solutions.
  • Write and maintain documentation and architecture diagrams as code and frameworks evolve.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience in Data Modeling, Data architecture, Data Quality, Metadata, ETL, and Data Warehouse methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience as an engineering lead in implementing scalable, distributed, and highly available systems using AWS.
  • Experience with SQL, AWS EMR/Lambda, Iceberg, Linux, Python, Web technologies, APIs, Spark, and Scala.
  • 2+ years' experience with AWS tech stack.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the media industry with platforms such as Operative One, Google Ad Manager, Freewheel, WO Traffic.
  • Experience with Snowflake or relevant experience in Redshift, SingleStore, Athena, MSSQL Server, or Oracle.
  • Familiarity with BI tools, preferably MicroStrategy.
  • Experience with Python and Pandas in an AWS Lambda framework.
