About the position

The Sr Data Engineer position at CAS involves developing and deploying scientific software solutions to create life sciences databases that enhance proprietary search technologies. This role focuses on building data transformation and integration pipelines to support scientific database initiatives, requiring a blend of software development and data engineering skills, along with a foundational knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics.

Responsibilities

• Develop life sciences content curation and delivery systems.
• Build data transformation and integration pipelines for scientific databases.
• Support the development of new scientific information management systems.
• Contribute to the efficiency of content curation and workflow processes.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10+ years of software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python and other programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, or Java.
• Experience in Linux/Unix environments.
• Experience building applications for public cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with database technologies including NoSQL, relational, property graph, and RDF/triple store.
• Experience with data engineering tools and techniques.
• Experience with AWS DevOps tools such as git and Cloud Development Kit (CDK).
• Experience with AWS Serverless technologies like Lambda, SQS, Fargate, and S3.
• Experience working with XML and XPath.
• Experience with MarkLogic/Xquery is a plus.
• Experience with Apache Airflow is a plus.
• Experience building containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
