About the position

The Sr. Data Engineer at TEKsystems is responsible for collaborating with business stakeholders to understand their data and reporting needs, translating these requirements into functional specifications, and developing data models. The role involves building and testing data pipelines, optimizing data warehouse operations, and supporting business intelligence initiatives. The engineer will take technical ownership of projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality and timeline expectations while promoting a culture of open communication and data security.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with business stakeholders to gain an understanding of TEK's business and data/reporting needs.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications and logical & physical data model requirements.
• Create and update data models to support project requirements.
• Build, implement and test data pipelines using SSIS and other data integration tools.
• Collaborate with architect and BI team in the design and build of subject-area specific data marts that support business analytics needs.
• Take technical ownership of projects and ensure deliverables meet scope, quality and timelines.
• Participate in the assessment of cloud data technologies and definition of future cloud data architecture through working on proof of concepts.
• Assist with information access and secure management of data.
• Perform optimization of data warehouse queries.
• Manage and optimize daily data warehouse refresh schedules and perform other administrative tasks for efficient operation of the data warehouse.
• Support development of business intelligence reports and dashboards.
• Define clear objectives, collect appropriate information, and develop action plans as a self-starter.
• Observe the highest level of confidentiality and a 'data security first' approach to all development activity.
• Promote honest and open communication throughout the credit union.
• Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the credit union's values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Expert level experience in ETL processes and data integration tools like SSIS.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python.
• Experience with cloud technologies, particularly Azure and Databricks.
• Strong SQL skills for database development and management.
• Familiarity with Power BI for business intelligence reporting.
• Experience with Oracle database and MS SQL Server administration.
