About the position

The Sr Data Science Analyst role at Bayer focuses on maximizing the use of large-scale genotype and workflow data to enhance high-throughput DNA genotyping processes. The position involves developing automated data ingestion pipelines, conducting data analyses, and creating visualization solutions to support operational decisions. The analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize processes and present findings to various stakeholders, driving strategic and operational changes within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize the use of large-scaled genotype and workflow data to support high-throughput DNA genotyping workflows.
  • Develop and implement automated data ingestion pipelines, data analyses, automated notifications/applications, and visualization solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Support analytics and dashboard troubleshooting, enhancements, and updates.
  • Collaborate with production team members to assess needs and recommend experiments and projects, suggesting new analytics and visualization development.
  • Drive high-throughput DNA genotyping process optimization by leveraging complex datasets to create mathematical/statistical models that predict lab process health and prescribe appropriate remediation actions.
  • Form partnerships with cross-functional teams, including internal research and development, engineering, and IT teams, managing the bidirectional flow of global-ready data and dashboards.
  • Provide technical contributions in a fast-paced team environment to accelerate efforts on building an analytics-driven product pipeline.
  • Demonstrate full autonomy in developing relationships for effective cross-functional collaboration throughout multiple organizations and partners on work stream initiatives for Data Science Community.
  • Present compelling, validated stories to all levels of the organization, including peers, senior management, and internal customers to drive both strategic and operational changes in business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience in Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science or other related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience in data science including familiarity with R/Python, R Shiny, SQL/PostgreSQL, APIs, Spotfire, and Github.
  • Strong proficiency in computational skills.
  • Capability to perform autonomously in a fast-paced working environment and to direct and work on parallel tasks that may have competing priorities.
  • Willingness and capability to anticipate, identify and address the needs of customers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A proven track record of solving challenging and complex problems, as well as a strong commitment to achieving results.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Knowledge in genotyping labs and/or genomics data handling.
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in R and/or Python programming skills, writing SQL queries, version control, and level of experience in building data pipelines and visualization applications/tools.
  • Some familiarity with AWS cloud services.
