About the position

The Sr. Data Scientist at Thermo Fisher Scientific is responsible for executing advanced analytics modeling and developing machine learning applications to enhance operational efficiencies and data integrity. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to address business challenges, designing predictive models, and communicating insights to stakeholders. The position requires a strong background in statistics, programming, and machine learning, with a focus on application development using frameworks like R/Shiny and Streamlit.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to identify business challenges and define action plans.
  • Generate and test hypotheses, analyzing and interpreting results.
  • Navigate large datasets for data mining, profiling, and natural language processing (NLP).
  • Design, develop, and program methods to consolidate and analyze unstructured data sources.
  • Evaluate predictive models and algorithms for optimal data value extraction.
  • Identify insights from large data sources to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Communicate findings and guide stakeholders through the machine learning process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, programming, data modeling, and advanced mathematics.
  • Experience with machine learning techniques and data visualization tools.
  • Proficiency in technical areas such as Snowflake, AWS EMR, Python, Spark, R, and associated libraries.
  • Knowledge of cloud architectures and data management approaches.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with exploratory data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with data engineering and pipelining tools.
  • Ability to identify non-traditional data sources.
