About the position

The Sr Data Scientist - Search and Browse role at Target involves leveraging machine learning and natural language processing to enhance the digital shopping experience. This position focuses on building and optimizing the core relevance engine and data science products that power Target's search capabilities. The role requires collaboration with business partners to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment, while also promoting innovative thinking and utilizing cutting-edge technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Data Science systems and services at scale.
• Architect solutions for capturing, processing, and mining large datasets in the retail industry.
• Utilize machine learning algorithms and NLP techniques to improve Mobile and Web Search systems.
• Perform data exploration and analysis, including anomaly detection and visualization.
• Implement algorithmic solutions based on specifications while adhering to best practices in model development.
• Develop maintainable and tested codebases with relevant documentation in approved programming languages.

Requirements

• 4-year degree in Quantitative disciplines or equivalent experience.
• PhD or MS in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics or related quantitative field.
• 3+ years of experience implementing Machine Learning models and algorithms into production at scale.
• Demonstrated experience in Search Indexing, Retrieval, Ranking or Query Understanding.
• Proficient in Python or Java with advanced coding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience querying large databases with SQL, HQL or variations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Research and/or industry experience in Information Retrieval, Query Understanding, Machine Learning, NLP, or Recommender systems.
