About the position

The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA)/Software Engineer is responsible for administering, managing, designing, documenting, and evaluating systems that require a database. This role serves as the primary resource within the department for complex technical, analytical, and professional services related to hospital databases, including websites and interfaces. The position is hybrid and requires residency in the Denver metro area.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the technical aspects of all hospital databases.
  • Establish standards for database management and software development related to programming, access, and data security.
  • Manage the performance and data integrity of all databases.
  • Promote consistency in data handling throughout the hospital.
  • Manage data security for databases and reporting applications.
  • Identify and improve database monitoring and performance processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of data protection strategies for database platforms, including backup and recovery.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal IT teams for new application implementations.
  • Understand user data needs and meet them with available database resources.
  • Triages complex user issues and handle escalations from staff.
  • Influence change to corporate and departmental software policies and standards.
  • Lead and mentor junior database administrators.
  • Act as an escalation point for unresolved issues.
  • Implement major process changes for database management and develop custom queries and reports.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the hospital's web applications.
  • Work with IT staff to achieve hospital information management goals.
  • Drive tasks to completion and take ownership of projects.
  • Participate in 7/24 on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in computer science or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in software development and database administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016-2019) in a Windows environment, including ETL processing.
  • Proficient in SQL, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Knowledge of web development using .NET, ASP, HTML, Bootstrap 4, and MVC methodology.
  • Strong understanding of complex database management concepts.
  • Demonstrated database development, implementation, and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to model and normalize data structures and write stored procedures.
  • Sound query and report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of System Development Life Cycle Methodology concepts.
