About the position

As a Senior Database Administrator at Essendant, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic direction for our database architecture and systems. This position involves overseeing upgrades, ensuring the design and support of databases for various application and infrastructure projects, and maintaining the databases to meet availability and performance standards. You will be responsible for planning future growth of systems and recommending improvements, as well as monitoring databases to proactively prevent issues from occurring. In this role, you will provide technical leadership to ensure the successful management of projects throughout the development life cycle, ensuring timely delivery of enhancements. You will design and maintain database structures according to best practices and company standards, conduct disaster recovery tests, and manage backup processes. Additionally, you will assist developers with tuning code to ensure successful implementations, all while embodying Essendant's core values of integrity, collaboration, customer-centricity, and a commitment to embracing and driving change. This position is hybrid, requiring in-office presence from Tuesday to Thursday, with the flexibility to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. Responsibilities

• Provides strategic direction for the database architecture and systems, including upgrades.
• Provides database design and support for application and infrastructure projects.
• Manages and maintains the databases to ensure availability and performance standards are met.
• Plans for future growth of systems and recommends improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
• Certification in RDBMS preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of database administration experience, 8 years preferred.
• Excellent RDBMS skills in Oracle and SQL Server.
• Excellent skills in UNIX, Linux and Windows Operating Systems.
• Excellent time/project management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of MongoDB, Progress, MySQL is a plus.
