We are currently seeking a Senior Database Administrator for a contract-to-hire role that offers the flexibility of working 100% remotely, although candidates must be available to work during Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Oracle and SQL Database Administration, particularly with Exadata and RAC clusters. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and creating an efficient physical database model based on logical data models and application specifications. You will translate the physical database design into implementation and manage the database post-implementation. Monitoring the database environment to ensure consistent response times for business systems is crucial, and you will be expected to suggest specific programming techniques and data access improvements to enhance subsystem performance. Troubleshooting is a key aspect of this position, as you will need to resolve various database integrity issues, performance problems, blocking and deadlocking situations, replication challenges, connectivity issues, and security concerns. A solid understanding of the ETL process, particularly utilizing SSIS packages that serve as wrappers for stored procedures, is essential. You will also provide database engineering assistance, focusing on troubleshooting SQL performance problems and understanding SQL Plans and Profiles to optimize database tables and address performance bottlenecks. Your responsibilities will include managing database user administration and implementing security rules, as well as developing backup and recovery strategies using Rubrik. Participation in disaster recovery tests is also part of the role. You will be tasked with identifying new opportunities to enhance the efficiency of data subsystems, reduce company costs, and improve existing processes, which may include automating tasks. Additionally, you will provide education and training, along with product support and diagnostic assistance for data access issues to applications development, computer operations, and production assurance teams. Working in multi-platform, multi-DBMS environments, including both on-premises and cloud-based systems, will be part of your daily activities. You will need to stay updated on the latest database integration technologies independently. Documentation is key; you will create, document, and maintain diagrams of current environments, troubleshoot problem programs for optimal data source connectivity, and request product upgrades from vendors. You will also be involved in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process, track and analyze disk growth based on application and data usage, and implement necessary changes to accommodate this growth. Creating and maintaining procedures related to DBMS subsystems and data movement between computing environments is essential. You will plan, coordinate, and implement PCI policies and procedures, respond to internal and external PWC audit requests quarterly and annually, and complete all assigned Change and Service Requests while resolving incidents in the iVanti ticketing system. Participation in an on-call escalation rotation for weekends and nights may be required. You will also open support tickets on vendor portals and collaborate with vendors on issues, ensuring clear communication of ideas and recommendations while documenting processes and procedures for others to follow.
