About the position

The Database Administrator will take ownership of the database design process within a software development environment, ensuring that the design aligns with the software development needs of the organization. This role is critical in analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements, ensuring that databases are capable of handling future growth effectively. The successful candidate will develop and administer data standards, policies, and procedures to maintain data integrity and compliance across the organization. In addition to database design, the role involves developing and implementing tools for data conversion and migration to support system upgrades and data integration efforts. The Database Administrator will collaborate closely with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to explore and define report metrics, ensuring that data reporting is both accurate and meaningful. Furthermore, the position supports teams in developing and implementing data access and data warehousing programs, facilitating efficient data storage and retrieval processes. The role also requires evaluating and providing recommendations on new database technologies and architectures to ensure that the best solutions are utilized. The Database Administrator will ensure the rigorous application of information security and assurance policies in the delivery of data management services. Additionally, the position involves maintaining, monitoring, and performance tuning databases to ensure high performance and reliability. Effective cross-functional communication is essential, as the Database Administrator will serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical audiences in various discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the database design process in a software development environment.
  • Analyze and plan for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.
  • Develop and administer data standards, policies, and procedures to maintain data integrity and compliance.
  • Develop and implement tools for data conversion and migration to support system upgrades and data integration.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to explore and define report metrics.
  • Support teams in developing and implementing data access and data warehousing programs.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on new database technologies and architectures.
  • Ensure the application of information security/information assurance policies in data management services delivery.
  • Assist with maintaining, monitoring, and performance tuning/optimizing databases.
  • Communicate effectively across functions, bridging technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience in database development, specifically in SQL Server database environments.
  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server 2014/2016/2019.
  • Thorough understanding of relational databases, T-SQL, scripting, and database normalization best practices.
  • Understanding of advanced database concepts such as cardinality, parallelism, and parameterization.
  • Experience with version control and CI/CD, including TFS and Git.
  • Proficient in SQL development, including writing and troubleshooting SQL code and scripts.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity and performance issues.
  • Experience with SQL Server Services such as SSRS, SSIS, or SSAS.
  • Experience with AWS and data tools including CDC, AWS DMS, S3, AWS Glue, RedShift, Redis Cache, and QuickSight.
  • Working knowledge of Python.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced AWS experience with DynamoDB, Lambda functions, AWS CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodeArtifact.
  • Advanced SQL Server experience with replication, partitioning, and sharding.
  • Experience in designing Data Warehouses/Data Lakes.
