About the position

The Sr Design Engineer - Electrical Routings at PACCAR is responsible for the engineering design, development, and production support of electrical harness and battery cable routings. This role involves conducting root cause analysis, problem definition, and resolution, while collaborating with various divisions within PACCAR. The engineer will manage multiple projects, apply engineering techniques, and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and initiate routing designs of complex nature and conduct necessary research incidental to design.
  • Complete design projects through the processes of planning, concept development, calculation and design analysis, design review, testing, evaluation, and implementation.
  • Handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Manage supplier activities related to design and manufacture of components.
  • Apply knowledge of stress analysis and FEA.
  • Apply knowledge of various materials and manufacturing processes to positively influence designs.
  • Apply knowledge and skills in Creo and Windchill functionality, particularly Creo cabling.
  • Coordinate and complete projects and design efforts with other engineering groups and departments within the company as directed.
  • Analyze data from warranty claims to support current and future designs.
  • Apply a proactive hands-on approach to defining issues and reaching early resolution with consensus from all stakeholders.
  • Identify, prioritize, and coordinate resolutions of production, process control and Quality Assurance issues as appropriate.
  • Prepare engineering activity status reports and other detailed reporting as directed.
  • Demonstrate professional and successful communication skills (verbal/written) with strong, effective interpersonal abilities.
  • Act in a professional manner in all contact with external and internal customers.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years Design experience with routings of electric harnessing or similar systems is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree is required.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in heavy truck assembly, heavy truck components and systems is preferred.
  • Previous Design experience with Creo Parametric is heavily preferred, particularly Creo Cabling software.
  • Knowledge of vehicle routings and respective systems including engine, transmission, aftertreatment, coolant, fuel, air, battery cables and electric harnessing.
  • Knowledge of chassis layouts and system design is preferred.
  • Knowledge of component analysis & validation techniques is preferred.
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint and excellent presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to change.
  • Ability to maintain progress on multiple projects and/or tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively by advocating for strategic objectives and/or procedural requirements.
  • Knowledge of vehicle vocations, applications, and how the customer uses the truck.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electric and autonomous trucks.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies.
