About the position

The Senior Design Project Manager at Jacobs will lead a multi-discipline team to deliver innovative building projects for clients in both the private and public sectors. This role involves mentoring staff, ensuring high standards in design documentation, and maintaining effective communication with clients and contractors. The position requires a blend of architectural expertise and people management skills, with a focus on project financials, quality, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain internal and external client networks as a primary contributor during client meetings and presentations.
  • Represent Jacobs positively at meetings and public presentations.
  • Participate in directing growth and strategic planning as part of the management team.
  • Initiate, prepare, and review proposals and participate in interviews in response to RFPs and RFQs.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the entire Project Team.
  • Ensure effective and constant communication with disciplines.
  • Foster a commitment to external and internal client service.
  • Develop a positive relationship of trust with clients and project leadership.
  • Regularly communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, and conduct progress reviews.
  • Set and follow up on Client Expectation Surveys (CES) and Client Satisfaction Surveys (CSS) throughout project milestones.
  • Facilitate the creation of communication plans and conduct status review meetings among project team members and clients.
  • Determine, monitor, and manage financial project metrics, schedules, and staffing requirements for each project.
  • Guide the overall development and quality of project documents in accordance with Jacobs Quality Program.
  • Lead project team meetings to resolve project issues and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Secure, assign, and maintain a full-service project team to successfully deliver projects while maintaining quality.
  • Prepare meeting minutes of client and team meetings and oversee their development with a project admin.
  • Plan, organize, and direct management and design staff.
  • Identify and assess risks and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure the obligations of the agreement between Client and the Company are fulfilled.
  • Provide effective team management to reduce project delivery costs and add value to the business.
  • Develop and monitor financial and project delivery schedules, including change management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited University.
  • Professional Registered Architect (RA).
  • 15+ years of AEC buildings experience, including client-facing Design Project Manager roles.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and completing at least 3 projects in the project architect role.
  • 5+ years of management experience involving direct client contact and full responsibility for projects, with examples of new construction project delivery from design through construction.
  • 5+ years of experience working as a licensed project architect.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentations.
  • Ability to work in multi-discipline, multi-office, and Global Integrated Delivery (GID) environments.
  • Knowledge and implementation of project financial acumen, including estimating ETC/EAC and earned value.
  • Active participation in professional organizations, with exceptional social, networking, organization, communication, people, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Registered Architect (RA) in the state of NY or NJ.
  • NCARB certificate holder.
  • Project Management Institute (PMP) Certification.
  • Experience with Design Build project delivery.
  • Diverse portfolio of architectural buildings experience, including corporate, commercial, life science, higher education, healthcare, and industrial facilities programs.
