About the position

The Sr Design Quality Engineer in Craftsmanship at Lucid is responsible for supporting and driving Design Quality activities related to appearance approval as part of the PPAP process. This role involves ensuring the quality of customer-facing parts for the Lucid Air, providing visual documentation of issues, coordinating with suppliers, and maintaining records of parts submitted for approval. The position also includes mentoring junior colleagues and supporting the CMF team in color matching.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the Lucid Air for all customer-facing parts for the Interior and Exterior.
  • Review molded parts pre-grain to ensure quality of the mold is acceptable to KO grain.
  • Provide visual documentation of issues related to mold prior to grain approval and collaborate with suppliers and engineers to address issues.
  • Review and validate the Pre Grain Approval Sheet from suppliers and sign off to start graining of tools.
  • Coordinate with SQE for shipment of pre-grain and AAR parts to Lucid for review.
  • Assess all AAR parts to ensure they meet visual targets and are dimensionally stable for PPAP sign off.
  • Maintain a record of all parts submitted for grain approval and AAR.
  • Provide visual documentation of issues related to AAR parts and work with suppliers and engineers to resolve them.
  • Support on-site at suppliers to help route cause issues with SQE and supplier quality teams.
  • Work with the Craftsmanship Lab Technician to arrange cataloged storage of AAR parts for future reference.
  • Support the CMF team to validate color matching of masters and parts.
  • Complete AAR on Lucid Air and provide ongoing support for future programs.
  • Manage and mentor junior colleagues.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience.
  • 5 years minimum of automotive experience.
  • Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results.
  • Experience with report writing and time management.
  • Experience with MS Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing a team is a plus.
  • Strong technical understanding of automotive processes related to the job.
  • Proven numeracy and literacy skills, good logical reasoning, and ability to translate business plans into individual objectives for staff.
  • Demonstrated capability of supporting complex projects.
  • Self-motivated with an understanding of roles and needs of different client groups.
