About the position

The Sr DevOps Engineer at Pennymac is responsible for overseeing the management of multiple products and directing technical teams through all phases of the software development life cycle. This role involves leading the implementation of new systems, ensuring organizational alignment, and improving the quality and velocity of deliverables across various teams. The Sr DevOps Engineer will also provide technical guidance, oversee incident support, and mentor team members, all while aligning with the company's culture and values.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with peers in Security, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Product teams to improve quality and velocity of deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and support via engineering design reviews for large-scale solutions.
  • Direct activities necessary to design and develop innovative technical solutions and ensure technology infrastructure runs effectively.
  • Ensure appropriate resources are available for systems' incident support and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee the review and implementation of technical solutions across multiple functions.
  • Leverage partnerships with IT teams and vendors to ensure adherence to architectural standards.
  • Review and analyze application code to identify root causes and provide solutions.
  • Provide application performance and feature capability improvement recommendations.
  • Drive product excellence by incorporating Operations Requirements.
  • Mentor, train, and develop team members for career progression.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, CIS, Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in supporting software development and operations via automated deployments and infrastructure as code in public cloud (GCP, AWS).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing mid to large-scale IT projects.
  • 2+ years of experience overseeing vendor relationships.
  • Mastery of modern agile software methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and planning tools (e.g. JIRA).
  • Experience with *NIX system administration, Java, Linux/Unix, Ruby, Perl, and Python.
  • Experience with Configuration Management tools such as Chef or Puppet.
  • Experience with System Monitoring and Logging Solutions.
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills and experience managing vendors.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Financial Services and mortgage industry experience preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to interface with executive management.
