About the position

The position focuses on providing post-sales support for Solution Engineering services within the Technology, Product, Experience (TPX) organization at Comcast. It involves managing the extensive Ciena 6500 Backbone Transport network, ensuring consistency, security, and efficiency in operations while leveraging automation tools. The role requires a deep understanding of sophisticated technologies and equipment, emphasizing proactive network management and strategic decision-making during high-stakes situations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistency across network configurations and settings to streamline operations.
  • Leverage automation tools to streamline routine tasks and workflows.
  • Implement centralized access control and authentication mechanisms for network security.
  • Troubleshoot network issues using detailed logs and diagnostic information.
  • Manage firmware and software upgrades and patches for network devices.
  • Oversee automated backup of device configurations for disaster recovery.
  • Enforce network policies and compliance standards within the NMS.
  • Manage user access levels and permissions within the NMS.
  • Facilitate integration with external systems to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conduct resource usage analysis for capacity planning and future growth.
  • Design and architect capacity requirements for the optical transport network.
  • Commission newly provisioned devices into the network and ensure operational integration.
  • Conduct lab testing of new network elements and equipment before deployment.
  • Test new releases of NMS software in a lab environment for functionality and performance.
  • Conduct end-to-end circuit testing to verify network connections and services.
  • Identify and decommission outdated network hardware to optimize resources.
  • Order and coordinate fiber cross-connect installations with service providers.
  • Engage with third-party providers for lit circuit quoting, designing, and ordering.
  • Schedule and perform routine maintenance activities to ensure network continuity.
  • Manage access control systems for third-party vendor access.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in a Field Service Engineering role supporting DWDM networks.
  • Hands-on experience in the field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ciena 6500 Photonic, OTN, Ethernet Networking, and Data Communications (TCP/IP).
  • Experience with scripting and using APIs for network management tasks.
