About the position

This position is part of the Employee Technology Team within the Information Technology Division at American Airlines, focusing on the development and support of web-based, mobile-aware applications and web services hosted in the Azure cloud. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to understand requirements and development needs while contributing to an agile team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage experience in creating and supporting cloud-native applications in the Azure cloud environment.
  • Understand application design requirements and use industry standard blueprints/patterns/frameworks for web applications hosted in public cloud environments.
  • Maintain current/steady-state applications and products hosted in the Azure cloud, including application security related patching, code upgrades/updates, data migration, bug fixes, feature enhancements, and performance tuning.
  • Perform application modernization best practices such as exploring, researching, and implementing new technologies to improve efficiency of the application lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues in distributed web applications using methods and tools available in the Azure cloud environment.
  • Implement situational awareness and resiliency concepts using native Azure cloud features to meet operational requirements pertaining to application performance, observability and availability metrics.
  • Work with a team to create detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates, ensuring tasks/projects are completed on time and within scope.
  • Support the development of coding standards and application security guidelines to meet enterprise and regulatory requirements (SOX, PII, PCI etc.).
  • Work with production operations department to ensure deployments roll out smoothly and customer groups receive appropriate support.
  • Participate in code reviews, security assessments, disaster recovery testing and mentoring junior developers.
  • Provide on-call production support (24 x 7 x 365), as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
  • 3 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments.
  • 3 years of professional, design, and open-source experience.
  • Applied knowledge and expertise of software patterns and frameworks used in applications hosted in modern cloud-native environments.
  • Applied knowledge and/or expertise in using modern programming languages such as Python, C#, XML, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, JQuery, Angular, SOAP/REST and other SDKs for .NET/Java runtimes.
  • Applied experience in modern highly available cloud-native databases such as Azure SQL, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Cosmos DB etc.
  • Applied knowledge and/or expertise of application runtime environments using Azure services such as Azure Virtual Machines, App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, etc.
  • Knowledge of Azure networking concepts, such as Virtual Networks, Subnets, and VPN Gateways etc.
  • Applied knowledge and/or expertise in use of Azure Monitoring and Logging tools for troubleshooting, auditing, and ensuring operational health of applications.
  • Applied knowledge and/or expertise in security best practices such as use of SSL/TLS/X.509 certificates, Azure Key Vaults, SSO federation using OAuth/PingFederate, Multi-Factor Authentication, Role-based access controls, network/application security groups, data encryption and privacy by design concepts.
  • Applied knowledge in IaC scripting languages using Azure CLI, Terraform, BICEP/ARM templates.
  • Experience in use of cloud-ready tools for development environments such as Visual Studio, Eclipse, Azure Data Studio etc.
  • Intermediate/Expert level knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD best practices using Azure Devops, Jenkins, Selenium and/or Git Actions for GitHUB.
  • Experience in relational databases such as MS-SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL.
  • Experience in TDD using cloud-based automated/manual testing tools such as Azure Test Plans and/or JMeter, Azure Load Testing etc.
  • Azure Certifications, such as AZ-900, AZ-104, and/or AZ-204.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • Personal commitment to Agile principles and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards such as SOX, PII, PCI Compliance.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics tools (SOAPUI, Fiddler, IE Inspector, HTTP Analyzer, Dynatrace)

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience.
