About the position

The Senior Development Civil Engineering Project Engineer plays a crucial role in the civil design aspects of utility-scale solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage, and wind projects at EDP Renewables. This position encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including conducting due diligence, performing site assessments, executing feasibility studies, evaluating new technologies, and developing conceptual designs along with cost estimates. The engineer will be involved in all phases of project development, ensuring that civil engineering practices align with the company's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. In this role, the engineer will assist with engineering quantity estimations and provide permitting support, maintaining and improving existing scopes of work, guidelines, specifications, schedules, and budget templates. The engineer will oversee and manage the work of third-party consultants, conduct preliminary hydrology and hydraulic designs, and provide comprehensive support for all departments regarding hydrology and hydraulics. Additionally, the engineer will perform preliminary grading analysis and design using Civil 3D, ensuring that the civil portion of the estimated balance of plant costs is optimized through accurate project layouts and major quantity takeoffs. The position also involves participating in value-added engineering studies of alternative design approaches and fulfilling additional duties as required. The work environment is hybrid, based in Houston, TX, allowing for a blend of office and fieldwork, which is essential for the successful execution of projects in the renewable energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering quantity estimations and provide permitting support
  • Maintain and improve existing scope of works, guidelines, specifications, schedule, and budget templates
  • Oversee, guide, and manage the work of third-party consultants
  • Conduct preliminary hydrology and hydraulic designs and calculations
  • Provide comprehensive support for all departments in matters pertaining to Hydrology and Hydraulics
  • Perform preliminary grading analysis/design using Civil 3D
  • Ensure that the civil portion of the estimated balance of plant cost is optimized by providing accurate project layouts and major quantity takeoffs
  • Participate in value-added engineering studies of alternative design approaches
  • Fulfill additional duties as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
  • 0-3 years of experience in civil site design
  • Professional Engineering license is preferred, in any state, but not required
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Proficient with HydroCAD, HEC-HMS or other similar hydrology modeling software
  • Proficient in hydraulic design software (HEC-RAS, Flo2D, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, etc)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D design and ArcGIS
  • Knowledgeable with applicable industry standards and codes including Uniform Building Code (UBC), International Building Code (IBC), American Concrete Institute (ACI)
