About the position

The Sr. Director, Assistant Controller of Accounting Operations will oversee the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities of PBS. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial operations, maintaining accounting policies, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the Accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Accounts Payable (AP) team to ensure timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices and employee expense reports.
  • Manage the Accounts Receivable (AR) team to ensure timely creation of customer invoices and monitoring of outstanding balances.
  • Manage the cash receipts process to ensure appropriate application of cash to receivables or revenue.
  • Oversee General Ledger (GL) staff to ensure accurate completion of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place and followed in AR, AP, and GL processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of transactions in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review and prepare audit schedules as required.
  • Lead the Accounting department on system updates or implementations impacting Accounting.
  • Analyze processes to identify efficiency improvements and reduce reliance on manual processes.
  • Control access and authorities in the accounting system to ensure segregation of duties.
  • Create, update, and implement accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide strong customer service by responding to inquiries from internal and external individuals.
  • Develop productive working relationships within the accounting team and with other departments.

Requirements

  • 8 years of work experience in public accounting and/or experience with general operations of a non-profit or corporate entity, including at least 5 years of management responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications; experience with Microsoft AX and D365 is a plus.
  • Experience implementing an ERP package or other SaaS solutions for A/P or A/R.
  • Ability to minimize errors and communicate proactively regarding corrections or changes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, developing, and empowering staff.
  • Highly organized with the ability to complete multiple high-priority tasks within deadlines.
  • Comfortable with change and able to resolve conflicts productively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with not-for-profit institutions preferred.
