About the position

The Sr. Director, Custom Thermal will lead the offering and product development of Vertiv's direct Custom Thermal Business. This leader will be a key part of the Thermal line of business senior leadership team, responsible for developing and executing the overall Thermal business strategy and driving the custom thermal business strategy and execution globally. This role will have high visibility globally and will serve as a key interface with regional teams to drive the product strategy and roadmap for the custom thermal business on a global scale. The position is based onsite at either the Minneapolis, MN (Excelsior, MN) or Westerville, OH location. In this role, the Sr. Director will develop and execute the custom thermal strategy and business plan in cooperation with regional teams. They will manage the OPEX and CAPEX budget for the custom thermal Center of Excellence (COE) team and work with product and regional teams to develop a three-year revenue plan. Regular quarterly regional interlocks will be conducted to ensure alignment on priorities, resource needs, product launches, and control of software business performance. The director will also develop and manage sales enablement tools to support the sales team, including configuration and product performance selection tools. The Sr. Director will own the custom thermal business market messaging globally, ensuring consistency across regions while tailoring messages to meet specific end market and regional needs. They will ensure timely execution of new capabilities and customer projects within budget and will be responsible for hitting product cost targets. Understanding competition and differentiation of Vertiv Solutions is crucial, as is developing tools for sales to support selling against competition. The director will analyze the overall custom thermal market size globally, Vertiv's market share, and opportunities to drive growth for the custom thermal business. They will collect inputs from regional teams on market trends, opportunities, and customer needs, which will be key inputs into the overall roadmap, product requirements, and strategy. Additionally, the Sr. Director will investigate and recommend new technologies or market opportunities, serving as a product visionary to drive game-changing products, strategy, and direction. They will further the advancement, functionality, and manufacturability of existing products, ensuring that product development activities align with the business strategy and direction. Regular presentations on the status of products and programs will be made at quarterly team updates and executive business reviews.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; 5+ years financial and business leadership experience.
  • Master's Degree in business administration (MBA) preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant business experience in leading a product business segment with engineering and product management reports globally, ideally in the custom air handling business.
  • Experience developing product strategy, roadmaps, positioning, and messaging globally.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
  • Ability to research, classify, prioritize requirements, communicate among stakeholders, and present ideas in an easily comprehensible manner.
  • Superior organizational and prioritization skills; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment while managing associated stress.
  • Ability to deal with highly confidential information.
