About the position

The Sr. Director, Marketing plays a pivotal role in shaping Somatus' story and message across key stakeholder groups within the commercial organization, including New Product Development (NPD), Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A), and Business Development (BD). This position is responsible for planning, developing, and executing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that aligns with and supports the company's brand. This includes marketing new and existing programs and services, conducting market research, and advertising through various media channels. The role requires a strong presence at the company's headquarters in McLean, VA, and reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, collaborating closely with leaders across NPD, BD, and M&A. The Sr. Director will lead the marketing and communications team, ensuring that their activities and priorities align with the organization's goals. This position demands a strategic mindset, creativity, and the ability to translate complex concepts and data into meaningful narratives that resonate with various audiences. The incumbent will also be responsible for identifying and creating compelling messaging that articulates Somatus' value proposition, developing sales enablement tools, and supporting media relations strategies to enhance the company's brand visibility. Additionally, the role involves leading market and competitive assessments, partnering with technology and product teams to advocate for new or improved products, and identifying relevant events for company participation to enhance thought leadership and brand presence.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and create compelling and inspiring messaging and stories that clearly articulate Somatus' value proposition to support the commercial business.
  • Develop and create sales enablement tools to be used by the BD, NPD & M&A team.
  • Collaborate on and support media relations strategy and messaging to help build the company's brand.
  • Create the processes, playbooks, and workflows that allow best practices to be shared across NPD, BD & M&A to support departmental goals.
  • Lead market and competitive assessments; leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to shape messaging and channel strategy.
  • Partner with the technology and product and innovation teams to identify, prioritize, and advocate for new or improved products and features based on competitive benchmarks, industry trends, usage analysis, and internal and external feedback.
  • Identify relevant events and conferences for company participation.
  • Develop outreach and attendance strategy for attended or sponsored events.
  • Identify and execute on speaking and thought leadership opportunities tied to events and conferences.
  • Lead and develop the marketing and communications team.
  • Align the team's activities and priorities to the goals of the organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field; Master's degree strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of strategic marketing & communications experience, with a minimum of 3 years' experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Expertise in directing and supporting market research collection, analysis, and interpretation of market data for short- and long-term market forecasts and reports.
  • Proven track record of working closely with the sales department to align sales and marketing strategies.
  • Experience managing and optimizing marketing budget and expenditures.
  • Proven track record of building, managing, and coaching a high-performing marketing team.
