About the position

The Visa Portfolio Management Operations team is responsible for driving transparent and consistent portfolio management practices to ensure that the highest impact investments are prioritized. We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Director of Portfolio Management to lead our portfolio management practices in a complex, matrixed environment. This role is critical to ensure transparency in our resource allocation, influencing stakeholders to bring consistency and alignment, and ultimately impacting the future growth of Visa. This position will report to the Vice President of Product Operations and will play a key role in advancing Visa's product portfolio management practices. The Senior Director will support planning and day-to-day portfolio management activities in close partnership with our Product Operations Business Units and Development teams. The ideal candidate will be a structured, critical thinker with excellent communication skills, capable of simplifying complex concepts. Extensive experience in portfolio management, R&D investment analysis, and product development and management is essential. We are looking for a thoughtful, curious, and analytical team member who is eager to make a significant impact in today's complex, global payments ecosystem. As the Senior Director, you will lead and develop a team responsible for managing the R&D investment portfolio for Product within Visa, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. You will work closely with Product and Technology partners at all levels to ensure that portfolio decisions are well-informed and aligned with strategic objectives. Your responsibilities will include driving strategic improvements in data transparency and insights regarding our R&D investments, coordinating executive-level portfolio health sessions, and improving visibility into the entire product investment lifecycle. You will also implement and manage portfolio management metrics and reporting to track progress and inform decision-making, identify and mitigate risks across portfolios, and drive continuous improvement in portfolio management processes, tools, and methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team responsible for managing the R&D investment portfolio for Product within Visa.
  • Work closely with Product and Technology partners to ensure portfolio decisions are well-informed and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Drive strategic improvements in data, transparency, and insights in R&D investment views, including performance on investments.
  • Coordinate and drive consistent executive-level portfolio health sessions.
  • Improve visibility into the entire product investment lifecycle for executive consumption to facilitate real-time decisions.
  • Understand portfolio investment data and drive new insights to speed consumption and decision-making for Leadership.
  • Implement and manage portfolio management metrics and reporting to track progress and inform decision-making.
  • Identify and mitigate risks across portfolios, ensuring proactive management of potential issues that could impact speed to market.
  • Drive continuous improvement in portfolio management processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop and manage a product portfolio prioritization framework to maximize return on portfolio investments.

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD.
  • 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience.
  • 15 years in Portfolio Management experience, 10 years product development experience, preferably in the payments industry, 5+ years in Senior Management experience.
  • Strong financial background experience in investment portfolio management.
  • Demonstrates expertise in portfolio management practices in a complex matrix environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in influencing, guiding, and providing mentorship to varying levels of staff.
  • Results-driven and able to collaborate with management and colleagues to share responsibility for end-to-end solutions.
  • Outstanding communications ability to a diverse customer audience, including C-level executives, product, and technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, self-motivated, self-managed.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent MS Office experience (Project, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment is preferred.
