About the position

The Sr. Director Purchasing Merchandising and Marketing is a pivotal member of the senior leadership team, tasked with overseeing the marketing, merchandising, and purchasing functions within the organization. This role is essential for managing a dynamic team composed of procurement professionals, merchandising product managers, and creative services personnel. The primary objective is to develop innovative strategies that support the organization's growth and enhance its market presence. In this capacity, the Sr. Director will lead national marketing, merchandising, and purchasing programs, ensuring that the department structure is optimized to meet the demands of a growing business. A key responsibility will be to establish a creative direction that drives sales, translating these strategies into actionable marketing plans aimed at achieving sales and inventory goals. The role also involves executing key seasonal events, developing counter-attack strategies, and managing collateral, pricing, and promotional strategies effectively. Collaboration with Sales & Operations leaders is crucial to understand the necessary tools for executing marketing plans. The Sr. Director will be expected to identify competitive trends and target key industry and local market opportunities. Furthermore, the marketing team will be encouraged to pursue innovative approaches to product selection, promotional strategies, and pricing strategies. Risk management in procurement will also be a priority, ensuring that potential negative impacts on organizational objectives are minimized while fostering opportunities for growth. Establishing performance standards and evaluation processes will be essential for assessing procurement activities in terms of progress, results, customer satisfaction, value, and cost. The role includes budget management for the categories under management and for procurement itself. The merchandising team will be guided to proactively identify new vendor relationships, maintain existing ones, negotiate profitable contracts, and ensure vendors meet agreed service levels. Financial reporting will be utilized to understand the levers influencing the P&L, ensuring that long-term financial goals are met. Additionally, the Sr. Director will oversee the skills and competency development of staff, focusing on training, development, and knowledge management capabilities. Alignment with Lowe's merchandising and marketing strategies will be critical, executing opportunities to leverage Lowe's capabilities for MSH customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead marketing, merchandising and purchasing programs nationally.
  • Assess department structure and build to accommodate the needs of a growing business.
  • Develop a creative direction and strategies to drive sales and ensure successful execution of marketing plans.
  • Execute on key seasonal events, counter attack strategies, collateral, pricing and promotion strategies.
  • Coordinate with Sales & Operations leaders to understand the needed tools to execute marketing plans.
  • Recognize and surface competitive trends to target key industry and local market opportunities.
  • Ensure the marketing team pursues innovative approaches to product selection, promotional strategies and pricing strategies.
  • Identify and manage procurement risks to minimize negative impacts on organizational objectives while encouraging opportunity.
  • Establish performance standards and evaluation processes to assess and report on procurement activity.
  • Manage budget for categories under management and for procurement itself.
  • Ensure the merchandising team proactively identifies new potential vendor relationships and maintains existing vendor relations.
  • Successfully negotiate profitable contracts and hold vendors accountable to agreed service levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; MBA preferred but not required.
  • 8 to 10 years of merchandising experience, preferably in wholesale distribution.
  • 5 to 7 years of P&L management and accountability for increasing revenue and driving profitability.
  • 5 years of experience leading a team with an emphasis on development, accountability, and delivering business results.
  • Ability to travel frequently to manage staff at other locations and attend marketing functions, with a 15% travel requirement.
