About the position

As the Sr. Director of Robotics Software Systems at Moderna, you will be responsible for driving the technical vision, development, and implementation of robotics software systems for drug research, development, and manufacturing. This role is pivotal in leading a team of talented software engineers and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to optimize efficiency, improve quality, and accelerate the production of life-saving therapeutics through the application of cutting-edge robotics software. You will develop and execute a comprehensive technical strategy for robotics software systems, identifying opportunities for automation, process optimization, and quality enhancement through robotics software solutions. In this position, you will provide technical leadership and team management, guiding a team of robotics software experts, engineers, and project managers. You will foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement to ensure the team's success. Staying at the forefront of advancements in robotics software systems, you will evaluate their potential impact on drug research, development, and manufacturing processes, making informed decisions regarding their adoption. Close collaboration with research, development, process engineering, quality assurance, and manufacturing teams will be essential to understand their technical requirements and develop robotics software systems that address operational challenges and drive efficiency. You will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of robotics software system projects, ensuring they are completed within budget, on time, and meet quality standards. This includes monitoring project progress, identifying technical risks, and implementing necessary mitigation strategies. Additionally, you will manage the technical budget for the robotics software systems department, allocating resources effectively to support project initiatives and achieve strategic goals. Your direct involvement in architectural decisions and active coding will be crucial, especially during critical project phases or when prototyping new solutions. As a technical thought leader, you will represent Moderna at technical conferences, sharing insights and best practices related to robotics software systems in drug research, development, and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive technical experience (15+ years) in robotics software development, automation, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale robotics software system projects in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
