About the position
The Senior Director of Software Engineering at Capital One is responsible for leading and managing a talented software engineering team to develop innovative software solutions. This role requires a strong technical background, effective communication skills, and the ability to foster partnerships with other technology leaders. The position focuses on modernizing tech stacks, improving developer experiences, and driving the implementation of new applications while ensuring compliance with standards and encouraging innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of software engineers in building services and tools that automate governance and compliance requirements.
- Work to modernize existing tech stacks.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for automation and machine learning.
- Partner with architects, product owners, and software engineers to drive the implementation of new applications.
- Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across the line of business and the enterprise.
- Lead efforts to build new and modernize existing applications into AWS environments.
- Conduct design and code reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
- Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity.
- Create proof of concepts and see projects through to production.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 9 years of experience in software development
- At least 7 years of experience in developing scalable web applications and architectural standards
- At least 7 years of experience in people management
- At least 3 years of experience with cloud technologies
Nice-to-haves
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or a Master's Degree in Software Engineering
- 3+ years experience with Amazon Web Services
- 3+ years of experience with horizontal platforms or related services and technologies
