About the position

Lumilens is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Systems and Hardware Engineering to lead our architecture definition and hardware development efforts. This role is pivotal in guiding a multidisciplinary team of engineers specializing in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, package development, and optical subsystem development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering optical transceiver products to data center customers and will be responsible for developing Lumilens' engineering capabilities across our family of photonics solutions. In this position, you will provide leadership for defining the system architecture, design, interfaces, risks, and trade-offs necessary to support product development schedules. You will coordinate with the leadership team to realize the product vision and strategic initiatives that align with Lumilens' goals. Your responsibilities will also include leading initiatives and fostering a team-focused development environment for systems and subassemblies in collaboration with external partners. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work with cross-functional teams to gather feature specifications, collect requirements from all relevant partners, and make informed decisions regarding implementation and resource trade-offs. Ensuring that product releases meet business needs and that key performance metrics for product performance are defined and achieved will be critical to your success. You will also coordinate with external partners and the internal team to drive hardware platform development, provide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching to team members, and manage internal timelines and budgets effectively. As a Senior Director, you will communicate project status, escalate issues to high-level management, and participate in hiring and disciplinary decisions affecting employees and contractors. This role requires a strong leader who can navigate a global matrix organization and foster a collaborative environment among diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, package development, and optical subsystem development.
  • Provide leadership for the definition of the system architecture, design, interfaces, risks & tradeoffs to support product development schedules.
  • Coordinate with the leadership team to realize the product vision and strategic initiatives consistent with Lumilens' strategy and goals.
  • Responsible for leading initiatives and building team-focused development of the system and subassemblies in collaboration with external partners.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on feature specifications, collect requirements from all relevant partners, and make decisions about implementation and resource trade-offs.
  • Ensure that product releases successfully meet business needs and that key performance for product performance are defined and met.
  • Coordinate with external partners and the internal team to drive the hardware platform development.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching to team members.
  • Participate in the management of internal timelines and budgets.
  • Communicate project status to escalate issues to high-level management and staff.
  • Participate in hiring/disciplinary decisions affecting employees and contractors.

Requirements

  • B.S/MS/PhD. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years' experience in telecommunications, optoelectronics, or microelectronics development with significant time in a management role.
  • Demonstrated design of products in the field with Telcordia GR-468 compliance.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, along with engineering and project management skills.
  • Experienced in managing/leading a diverse team of strong individual contributors.
  • Technical depth to understand concerns and communicate status and resolution to executive leadership team.
  • Ability to evaluate candidates, mentor and develop the team, and build a successful team.
  • Able to cooperate in a global matrix organization/multi-site matrixed environment.
