About the position

As a Senior Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be an individual contributor who plays a pivotal role in shaping the network security agenda within the Network Protection Engineering organization. This position is designed for deep technical experts and thought leaders who are committed to driving innovation and excellence in engineering practices. You will be responsible for devising clear roadmaps that deliver next-generation technology solutions, focusing on the enterprise network security platform, which includes secure access services, perimeter defense, and network defense. Your expertise will help accelerate the adoption of modern technologies, ensuring that the engineering community is well-equipped to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. In this role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders across the organization to address Capital One's toughest issues, delivering solutions that directly impact the lives of customers and associates. You will serve as a role model and mentor, coaching and strengthening the technical expertise of the engineering and product community. Your ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of the organization will be crucial as you operate as a trusted advisor for specific technology platforms and capabilities. Additionally, you will lead efforts to create next-generation talent for Tech, actively mentoring internal talent and recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One's technical capabilities. Responsibilities

  • Build awareness, increase knowledge and drive adoption of modern technologies, sharing consumer and engineering benefits to gain buy-in.
  • Strike the right balance between lending expertise and providing an inclusive environment where others' ideas can be heard and championed; leverage expertise to grow skills in the broader Capital One team.
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence, using opportunities to reuse and innersource solutions where possible.
  • Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization.
  • Operate as a trusted advisor for a specific technology, platform or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and implementation in a unified manner.
  • Lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One's Tech talent.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least 9 years of software engineering or software development experience
  • At least 5 years of public cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • At least 3 years of experience with Network Security Engineering

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters Degree
  • 12+ years of software engineering or software development experience
  • 7+ years of experience in building distributed systems and highly available services using cloud computing services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • 5+ years of experience with Network Security Engineering
