About the position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of AWS data centers. This role involves designing resilient and cost-effective electrical distribution systems, ensuring compliance with various regulations, and collaborating with multiple teams to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions. The engineer will be involved in all phases of the project, from concept to construction, and will play a key role in maintaining world-class uptime for AWS customers.

Responsibilities

• Design data center electrical systems and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
• Create designs that meet or exceed quality and budgetary requirements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes by working with local agencies.
• Review and approve equipment submittals.
• Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
• Work with commissioning teams to test and validate electrical systems' installation and performance.
• Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
• Travel to sites for reviews and provide engineering evaluations and audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or 12+ years of relevant electrical experience.
• 7+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
• 9+ years of experience developing design documentation for construction and/or permitting.

Nice-to-haves

• Professional Engineering License and knowledge of building codes and regulations (Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA).
• Detailed understanding of critical data center electrical equipment (UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, etc.).
• Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.
• Experience with fast track design/build projects and large-scale technical operations.
