About the position

The Sr. Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing electrical machine controls for both standard and custom packaging machines. This role involves programming, integration, and communication for various electrical components, as well as assisting in the development of equipment through the implementation of emerging technologies and best practices in controls design.

Responsibilities

  • Design standard machinery controls to meet customer packaging needs.
  • Ensure accuracy of calculations related to electrical and pneumatic systems for automation mechanisms.
  • Create and maintain structured electrical bills of materials for purchasing and production.
  • Research and select appropriate electrical components for various devices.
  • Develop working electrical layout drawings, control cabinet drawings, and pneumatic layout drawings using AutoCAD 2D.
  • Assist in cost reduction and quality improvement of electrical designs for machinery.
  • Understand and address customer electrical specifications and needs for packaging operations.
  • Assist technical writers in creating machine documentation.
  • Provide programming for standard equipment upgrades and custom packaging machinery.
  • Participate in the start-up and commissioning of machinery at the plant and occasionally at customer facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of Electrical Controls/Design experience with Industrial Automated Machinery.
  • Experience in electrical design of industrial automated machinery using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Knowledge of high voltage three phase and single phase (600V and lower) schematics.
  • Control system design experience using Allen-Bradley components (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, Micro 850 processors; PanelView HMIs, PowerFlex 525 VFDs, Kinetix 5300, 5500 Servo Drives, Remote I/O).
  • Ability to create I/O layout diagrams, electrical panel layout diagrams, machine layout diagrams, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Experience in structured programming and configuring of industrial automated machinery using Rockwell Automation products (Studio 5000, RS Logix 5000, RS Logix 500, Connected Components Workbench).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, office, presentation).
  • Strong time management skills for handling multiple assignments.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 79 standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills with attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
