About the position

The Sr Electrical Engineer - Configuration Management at Amtrak is responsible for supporting the Communication and Signals (C&S) System Office departments in managing design documentation, asset data, and change management processes. This role involves leading the development and administration of configuration management systems, ensuring that documentation and data related to C&S infrastructure are current and properly maintained. The engineer will also support the implementation of change management processes and serve as the custodian for various documentation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and improvement of change management processes and procedures.
  • Serve as administrator and custodian of C&S Engineering's SharePoint page for published standards and design documentation.
  • Lead development and administration of configuration management systems and software.
  • Support document control and change management processes for train control design files and databases.
  • Lead and participate in meetings related to C&S infrastructure operations and improvements.
  • Serve as lead custodian for document and configuration management data in various systems.
  • Support development of reporting on C&S system reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with six years relevant experience or ten years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and change management processes, project management, and maintenance methods.
  • Strong working knowledge of railroad operations and construction practices.
  • Working knowledge of C&S equipment and infrastructure such as PTC systems and interlocking systems.
  • Knowledge of FRA standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools and SharePoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel and organize work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering with eight years relevant experience or twelve years equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience in management of C&S design projects and operations management.
  • Extensive field knowledge of train control construction and maintenance practices.
  • Experience using Bentley Microstation Applications.
  • Qualified on NORAC, AMT-2 and RWP.
