About the position

The Sr. Electrical Engineer position at Kiewit focuses on the design and engineering of electrical systems for industrial and water projects. This role involves working on complex facilities across various markets, providing opportunities to engage in diverse projects and advance technical skills. The position is part of a growing team that emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and collaboration in engineering design.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical engineering designs, including layout, design schematics, calculations, and conceptual designs.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to design medium to large industrial projects.
  • Formulate technical specifications and prepare interface points with construction partners.
  • Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel, performing bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals.
  • Review electrical requirements for new facilities and project plans.
  • Perform ETP analysis and simulation, system modeling, protection coordination, reliability studies, load flow studies, and grounding integrity.
  • Utilize SmartPlant for balance of plant electrical systems design.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, and Kiewit guidelines.
  • Work independently on small projects or as part of a large multi-discipline team on larger projects.
  • Support RFP, Pre-Feed, FEED, D/B, and EPC projects for electrical designs across multiple markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university and EIT license is required.
  • At least 5 years' experience performing Electrical engineering design for Industrial facilities.
  • Experience with ETAP simulation/analysis is required.
  • Experience with SmartPlant, or similar software for design.
  • PE preferred, or willingness to obtain within a year.
  • Experience with FEED, D/B, EPC designs, familiar with 30/60/90% completion design progression.
  • Experience in field construction or startup and previous experience directing junior engineers is desirable.
