About the position

KLA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with expertise in Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) Design to join our dynamic team in Ann Arbor. This role is pivotal in developing product equipment, test centers, software, and AI algorithms that enhance KLA's innovative capabilities. As a global leader in diversified electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, KLA plays a crucial role in the production of virtually every electronic device worldwide. Our commitment to innovation is reflected in our investment of 15% of sales back into research and development, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of technology. In this position, you will be responsible for developing PCBA-based product features across various KLA products, including analog, communications, and digital signal processing. You will tackle complex engineering challenges by characterizing components, designing and prototyping analog front-end circuits, generating schematics, directing PCB layout, and debugging PCBAs in the lab. Your role will also involve defining test criteria, implementing test plans on functional prototypes, and ensuring the reliability and safety of designed subsystems. Collaboration with other teams will be essential to develop PCBA solutions and ensure successful integration testing at both the subsystem and system levels. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and support to junior electrical design engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. This position requires flexibility for domestic and international travel based on business needs, and you will be expected to work onsite at least three days per week. Joining KLA means being part of a high-performing team that thrives on solving challenging problems and advancing technology in the semiconductor industry.

  • Solve challenging engineering problems by characterizing components, designing/prototyping analog front-end circuits, generating schematics, directing PCB layout, and debugging PCBAs in the labs.
  • Define test criteria and implement those test plans on functional prototypes in the lab to prove the reliability/safety of the designed subsystem.
  • Propose and develop PCBA and subsystem qualification fixtures; modify and integrate the existing electrical and subsystem designs to achieve the desired functionality.
  • Understand and gather project specifications and performance requirements on the system level.
  • Collaborate with other groups to develop the PCBA solution and ensure a perfect integration test at the subsystem and/or system level.
