About the position

The Sr. Electrical Project Engineer at Graphic Packaging International is responsible for managing electrical projects within the Engineering Department, focusing on the replacement and installation of electrical equipment, controls, and instrumentation. This role involves collaboration with various departments to prioritize and develop capital projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The engineer will oversee all aspects of project management from scope definition to installation and start-up, while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe working environment and ensure project implementation is achieved safely.
  • Manage projects in accordance with state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Work with operations and maintenance to develop a list of potential electrical/instrumentation capital projects.
  • Assist in defining project scopes and performing preliminary economic evaluations.
  • Utilize the mill capital plan to develop detailed project definitions and scopes.
  • Estimate project costs and forecast quarterly outlays of funds.
  • Work with vendors to size, specify, and obtain quotes for required equipment.
  • Manage contractors and engineering consultants for project completion.
  • Maintain project budgets and write requisitions for materials and labor.
  • Monitor project progress and maintain schedules by coordinating activities.
  • Conduct regular project updates and review meetings with operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Attend engineering update meetings to discuss project status.
  • Participate in Annual Outage planning meetings to communicate project timelines.
  • Maintain project data and documentation in appropriate project folders.
  • Provide project documentation for operator training packages.
  • Recommend spare parts to the Maintenance Engineer for storeroom setup.
  • Provide information relevant to control logic and operation of new equipment.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the E&I Superintendent and department.
  • Develop and maintain mill electrical specifications for project implementation.

Requirements

  • Ten years of relevant capital project management experience in a paper mill environment preferred.
  • Practical (hands-on) experience working in a Plant / Manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred, or other degrees with an electrical focus and more than 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Multi-tasking skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines continuously.
  • Effective negotiation experience with Vendors, Suppliers, Contractors, and Internal Resources.
  • Strong design and system troubleshooting skills required.
  • Working knowledge of SAP system preferred.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to lead in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience in project management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations in project management.
