About the position

The Sr. Electronic Hardware Manufacturing Process Engineer will support the design and manufacture of space flight hardware, ensuring compliance with NASA and industry standards. This role involves working closely with senior experts to develop and revise electronic hardware workmanship standards, conducting gap analyses, and representing NASA/MSFC on various standards committees. The engineer will also improve manufacturing processes, evaluate supplier documentation, and support vendor audits, all while fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and manufacture of space flight hardware, including NASA and industry standards for printed board design and assembly.
  • Work with senior Subject Matter Experts to develop and revise electronic hardware workmanship standards.
  • Perform gap analyses between existing and proposed standards.
  • Serve as a NASA/MSFC representative on NASA and Industry Workmanship Standards Committees.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of workmanship standards related to NASA Space Flight Hardware fabrication and assembly.
  • Discuss and adjudicate changes to standards with government and industry professionals.
  • Support the MSFC/ES33 manufacturing laboratory by improving manufacturing processes and ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Evaluate suppliers' manufacturing documentation to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Assess deviations, waivers, or proposed departures from requirements and communicate risks involved.
  • Support smaller projects with inspection and/or design support, requiring training and certification to appropriate standards.
  • Assist with MSFC vendor audits.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering or similar degree with a minimum of 20 years applicable experience.
  • Knowledge of solder alloy testing, packaging reliability testing, and advanced packaging for aerospace applications.
  • Familiarity with NASA Standards and current state-of-the-art packaging technologies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with NASA Design Specifications and Standards is highly desired.
  • Ability to interpret test results and prepare technical reports and presentations.
