About the position

The Sr. Employee Relations Consultant at Molina Healthcare plays a crucial role in mitigating risks for the organization while enhancing the employee experience. This position is primarily responsible for guiding people leaders through complex employee issues, ensuring that both organizational policies and employee concerns are addressed fairly and equitably. The consultant will engage in various activities, including conducting investigations, managing corrective actions, and providing coaching and counseling to leaders. The role also encompasses handling leaves of absence, accommodations, and supporting reductions in force, as well as responding to EEOC inquiries and interpreting policies. A key aspect of this position is the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with a focus on compassion and persuasion. The consultant must possess strong listening skills and be adept in conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation. They will be expected to identify and mitigate risks associated with employee relations issues, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and aligning with Molina's mission, vision, and values. The consultant will also utilize Employee Engagement Survey results to develop solutions aimed at improving the employee experience within their client groups. They will assist management in navigating difficult employee conversations, prepare necessary documentation, and provide strategic insights into employee relations trends. Additionally, the consultant will mentor and lead other Employee Relations Consultants, offering guidance and expertise on various employee relations matters. This position requires a proactive approach to creating a positive work environment and fostering a culture of fairness and equity within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Mitigate risk for the organization by managing employee relations issues and ensuring adherence to policies, practices, and Molina's mission, vision, and values.
  • Utilize exceptional written communication skills to prepare appropriate documentation for each matter with discoverability in mind.
  • Assess risk and resolve conflict through mediation.
  • Track appropriate level of detail by case to ensure ability to identify trends through reporting and address recurring risk.
  • Promote a positive work environment and employee experience by yielding fair and equitable solutions for employees.
  • Conduct investigations into alleged misconduct and workplace incivility, applying the appropriate amount of time and diligence based on the nature of the case and facts presented.
  • Utilize Employee Engagement Survey results to create solutions and a better employee experience within client group(s).
  • Assist management in addressing employee issues, including but not limited to corrective action, employee coaching, leaves of absence, accommodations, and HR policy adherence.
  • Assist management in preparing for difficult employee conversations, including creating talking points.
  • Provide an overall strategic view of the employee relations issues facing management and conduct trend analysis and create training to get in front of issues.
  • Provide efficient, consistent, and prompt consultative services, thereby creating capacity for people leaders.
  • Mentor and lead Employee Relations Consultants by providing expertise and guidance on employee relations issues.
  • Take the lead on complex employee relations projects or initiatives, partnering with HRBPs, Legal, Compliance, and other key stakeholders as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write and speak concisely, compassionately, and persuasively.
  • Proven conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
  • Experience in conducting investigations into employee misconduct and workplace issues.
  • Ability to assess risk and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills to track case details and identify trends.
  • Experience in coaching and counseling people leaders on employee relations matters.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and practices, particularly regarding leaves of absence and accommodations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in handling EEOC responses and policy interpretation.
  • Familiarity with Employee Engagement Surveys and their application in improving employee experience.
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading a team of consultants.
