About the position

The (Sr.) EMS Network Analyst is responsible for the effective operation of PJM's electronic network, including both internal and external networks. This role involves designing, maintaining, and operating PJM networks, ensuring reliable real-time communications between PJM and other entities. The position allows for flexible remote work but requires onsite support as needed, with a preference for candidates residing within commuting distance to PJM's locations in Audubon and Milford, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Design, distribute, install, test, maintain, and operate robust local and wide area networking infrastructure.
  • Identify, analyze, and manage problems occurring on components of network infrastructure.
  • Design, distribute, install, test, maintain, and operate routers between critical systems and PJM internal networks.
  • Perform system administration functions on all EMS related PJM router platforms and recommend router placement and configuration.
  • Design, distribute, install, test, maintain, and operate LAN hub and switching equipment between critical systems and PJM internal networks.
  • Perform system administration functions on all EMS related PJM switching or hub platforms and recommend equipment placement and configuration.
  • Design, distribute, install, test, maintain, and operate firewalls between EMS systems and PJM internal networks or other approved entities.
  • Perform system administration functions on all EMS PJM firewall platforms and recommend firewall placement and configuration.
  • Maintain and operate ICCP communications application configurations.
  • Monitor real-time communications and manage planned upgrades with member companies and other ISO/RTO operators.
  • Respond to restore service during unplanned outages as quickly as possible.
  • Schedule and perform regular failovers to real-time communications WAN infrastructure and other critical systems.
  • Manage vendor contracts and service level agreements related to PJMnet and associated functions.
  • Design, distribute, install, test, maintain, and operate Network Management Tools used on critical systems.
  • Implement and administer network security to ensure compliance with PJM security practices.
  • Assist in research and design of solutions and activate new solutions through testing and customer acceptance.
  • Maintain and communicate change information for all network platforms.
  • Administer PJM's IP address space and Domain Name Registration.
  • Build and develop strong relationships with ITS's business area clients by providing superior customer support.
  • Operate systems to achieve published service level metrics.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 0-5 years of work experience
  • Experience in security-focused network system engineering and providing support for business-critical networks.
  • Experience in the entire design and operations life-cycle including project management and requirements analysis.
  • 0-5 years of experience in Firewall Management, Network Support, and Systems Administration.
  • 0-5 years of experience with EMS and/or SCADA communications systems and protocols, including ICCP associations.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Experience using verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint)

Nice-to-haves

  • BS degree in Computer Engineering
  • At least 4 years of experience with SASE/SDWAN/WAN Acceleration/Optimization Solutions
  • 0-5 years of experience maintaining, administering, and creating ICCP Links on an OSI Monarch based system.
  • At least 4 years of experience with enterprise network management tools such as SolarWinds, Cisco Smartnet, Splunk, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions.
  • Experience supporting any of PJM Committees.
  • Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (APP)
