About the position

The Sr. Energy Associate at SOCOTEC will lead the Energy Modeling group within the Energy & Sustainability Services Division, focusing on high-profile sustainability projects. This role involves managing productivity, training, and financial targets while collaborating with major real estate developers and top-tier construction companies. The position requires technical proficiency in energy modeling and a strong ability to engage with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Energy Modeling group for productivity, training, and financial targets.
  • Act as the outward-facing representative of the Energy Modeling group to clients.
  • Provide Energy Modeling service line presentations to internal teams and clients.
  • Ensure collaboration with other SOCOTEC divisions, primarily the Green Group and Envelope Division.
  • Review, approve, and sign/seal Department of Buildings Energy Code submissions.
  • Review and approve the energy efficiency portion of the LEED submissions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering, Physics or Architecture.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) accreditation required either upon joining or planned in the near future.
  • Minimum of five years experience in a consulting environment, specifically in energy analysis for US-based projects.
  • Superior verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Proven group management skills.
  • Proven ability to engage well with external stakeholders, including clients and design partners.
  • Thorough knowledge of energy efficiency in large and complex buildings.
  • Thorough knowledge of energy modeling software, specifically DOE 2.2 or EnergyPlus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of architectural detailing and relevant software platforms (THERM, WUFI, CFD) is a plus but not required.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Passive House International (PHI) and/or Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) certification systems and relevant tools (PHPP, WUFI Passive, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Basic AutoCAD and Revit skills.
  • Computer programming knowledge is a plus.
