About the position

Provide consulting services, advice and assistance to client firms on HVAC, plumbing, sanitary sewer, and fire protection systems for a diverse set of industries and manufacturing operations. Serve as lead engineer on studies and analyses and provide recommendations. Assist and advise the client and/or lead the installation and start-up on assigned projects. The engineer will be expected to develop design and submittal documents and drawings for plumbing and sanitary sewer systems for industrial project sites. A firm understanding of the codes and design requirements for plumbing systems design and installation is required. The engineer will also prepare drawings and designs for fire protection systems, and fire water storage and pumping systems. Familiarity with requirements of facility insurance carriers (FM Global) would be a major benefit. The role includes assisting in the preparation of client proposals and marketing materials, conducting engineering studies and analyses, performing field surveys, executing design engineering, preparing construction and bid documents, and maintaining technical expertise through monitoring technological advances.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and/or perform the duties of a Senior Mechanical Engineer, or Project Engineer on assigned projects.
  • Develop design and submittal documents and drawings for plumbing and sanitary sewer systems for industrial project sites.
  • Understand the code requirements associated with fire protection requirements.
  • Prepare drawings and designs for fire protection systems, and fire water storage and pumping systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of client proposals and marketing materials.
  • Meet with client personnel to assist in preliminary planning and identification of design concepts/limits.
  • Conduct engineering studies and analyses of unit operations, equipment, and operational methods.
  • Perform field surveys in preparation for design activities.
  • Execute or supervise design engineering including flow sheets, equipment and piping specifications.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of construction and bid documents.
  • Seal mechanical construction documents as the engineer of record where appropriate.
  • Assist in obtaining bids for construction and act as liaison during construction.
  • Coordinate project activities of other engineers and specialists.
  • Maintain technical expertise through monitoring technological advances.
  • Perform shop inspections and/or vendor expediting during equipment fabrication.
  • Perform administrative and other miscellaneous tasks as required.
  • Work in a multi-discipline environment and coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Take on more than one project at the same time.
  • Present project mechanical scope in group meetings.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design in industrial and manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in the noted fields in a responsible engineering position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable mechanical standards and codes used for HVAC, plumbing and fire protection.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications for engineering, including Navisworks, Autocad and Revit.
