About the position

This position is part of the Seagate Research Group (SRG), focusing on investigating and developing hardware technologies for efficient data storage, particularly in Edge Analytics and Mass Capacity Storage. The role involves designing, assembling, and testing hardware, primarily targeting FPGA platforms, while collaborating with a team to innovate and enhance storage architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate hardware technologies for efficient data storage.
  • Explore new mechanisms in electronic hardware modeling.
  • Design, assemble, and oversee fabrication and testing of hardware development.
  • Assist in generating new ideas and conceptualizing them with senior architects and junior engineers.
  • Develop hardware designs on boards primarily targeted at FPGA platforms.
  • Support development of new features and address customer issues.
  • Work on printed circuit board digital and analog circuit design.
  • Create schematic symbols and electronic components using Mentor Graphics PADS or similar software.
  • Generate drawings, Gerber files, and documentation for PCB fabrication and assembly.
  • Identify test failure root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Enhance performance and stability of hardware designs.
  • Collaborate with other development teams for system integration.
  • Drive electronics hardware engineering activities including design, testing, and assembly of prototype systems.
  • Perform operational tests and fault isolation on electronic subsystems.
  • Assist in designing and constructing test suites using diagnostic equipment.
  • Actively design prototypes of electronic subsystems using FPGAs.
  • Document current and future storage architectures for various applications.
  • Develop RTL primarily targeted at FPGA platforms for electronics subsystems.
  • Co-contribute to RTL development and bug fixing for storage products.
  • Provide research intelligence for future Seagate products and create reference architectures.
  • Work with subject matter experts at Seagate worldwide sites.
  • Create internal and external research papers and collaborate with academic institutions.

Requirements

  • Experience in board bring up, hardware engineering, and testing.
  • Proficiency in RTL, C, and C++ programming, debugging, and Unix-based Operating Systems.
  • Experience in system design with strong exposure to FPGAs and RTL to FPGA netlist flow.
  • Knowledge of processor architecture (ARM, RISC-V) is a plus.
