About the position

The position at Caterpillar Inc. involves leading engineering activities within the Resource Industries Group, specifically focusing on the Large Mining Truck product development. The role emphasizes ensuring machine performance meets customer requirements, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with dealers and customers to resolve performance issues. The candidate will be responsible for driving the development of Diesel Electric NPI programs and conducting complex simulations to optimize machine performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead Machine Performance and Controls development for Large Mining Truck (LMT) machine NPI programs.
• Perform expert evaluations of concepts to understand machine performance and drive decision-making on final configurations.
• Conduct complex simulations using Caterpillar Dynasty tool for sub-system development.
• Support the development of controls requirements to optimize machine performance.
• Oversee development and validation plans for quality control software development.
• Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Validation workshops.
• Lead validation of machine performance at proving grounds and customer sites.
• Develop machine field risk mitigation/monitoring plans for pilot machines.
• Publish machine performance data for internal and external use.
• Initiate and support New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent education.
• Performance and controls experience.
• Machine, engine, powertrain or electronics system performance/integration experience.
• Experience with controls systems and software development using Matlab, Simulink, etc.
• Hands-on machine testing experience collecting and analyzing data.
• Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques.
• Prior experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organization.
• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively with various stakeholders.
• Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics.
• Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized simulation/analysis programs.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Analytics or related fields.
• Knowledge of competitive machines in the mining industry.
• Knowledge of full machine performance simulations.
• Knowledge of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process and 6 Sigma methodologies.
• Knowledge of programming languages (Python, C++, etc.).
