About the position

The Senior Engineer - Process Control at Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) plays a crucial role in supporting mill operations and advancing process control strategies. This position focuses on identifying optimization opportunities, managing control equipment, and implementing new processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure successful application development and training, contributing to the long-term success of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Identify process optimization opportunities in all areas of the mill and facilitate their successful implementation.
  • Deal with application and software issues related to process control and support end users in application development.
  • Conceptualize, build, and lead the development of breakthrough approaches resulting in process improvements.
  • Manage control equipment specifications, sensors, vendors, and process control software development.
  • Establish and implement area process optimization goals and monitor performance.
  • Apply control theory to design, test, troubleshoot, and oversee implementation of new processes and equipment.
  • Identify and develop new control schemes for retrofits and existing systems.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and instrument problems and collaborate with technicians on advanced control systems.
  • Create and implement new strategies to improve process efficiency and support start-up activities.
  • Create and/or maintain automation processes.
  • Interface with all levels of mill staff to provide design, estimating, engineering, and implementation of electrical and process control systems.
  • Coordinate and facilitate user training.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Bio-Resource) or Paper Science with coursework in control theory.
  • 5+ years of experience in the electrical, instrumentation, or process control field.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) skills and a Six Sigma Blackbelt certification are a plus.
  • Proficient with Honeywell TDC and Honeywell Experion configuration and programming.
