About the position
We are currently seeking an experienced utility-scale PV Solar & BESS Engineer with over 6 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have functioned as the lead design engineer for utility-scale PV solar projects of 20MW and larger. This role requires expertise in leading the development of electrical design packages for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects, also of 20MW and larger. The candidate should have served as QA/QC on medium voltage collection system design projects and possess the ability to mentor junior engineers. A strong understanding of inverter-based technologies commonly applied for these project types is essential. The engineer will be responsible for developing collection designs, which include single line diagrams, collection system layouts, communication diagrams, power cable sizing, cable schedules, and wiring diagrams, while ensuring compliance with applicable fire, electrical, and building codes. Effective communication with all stakeholders is crucial, and active participation in project plan meetings is expected. Responsibilities
- Function as the lead design engineer for utility-scale PV solar projects (20MW and larger).
- Lead the development of electrical design packages for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects (20MW and larger).
- Serve as QA/QC on medium voltage collection system design projects.
- Mentor junior engineers in their professional development.
- Develop collection design including single line diagrams, collection system layouts, communication diagrams, power cable sizing, cable schedules, and wiring diagrams.
- Ensure compliance with applicable fire, electrical, and building codes.
- Effectively communicate with all stakeholders involved in projects.
- Actively participate in project plan meetings.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience with utility-scale PV solar and BESS projects.
- Experience with electrical equipment including MV and LV switchgear, pad mount transformers, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, inverters, UPS systems, and battery systems.
- Proficiency in short circuit and reactive capability analysis using ETAP or SKM.
- Experience with arc flash analysis using ETAP or SKM.
- Ability to perform AC and DC voltage drop calculations.
