This role involves both component level design validation and system performance assessment to ensure a seamless deployment of technology to customers. The engineer will engage in chip and laser characterization, troubleshooting, and resolving engineering challenges as products transition from initial release to customer release. A strong understanding of laser, photonics, CMOS, and system-level concepts is essential, along with experience in complex test and measurement techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to bring-up leading edge silicon photonic and laser products.
  • Define validation methods required to guarantee products meet both component level and system level product requirements.
  • Perform design validation on new chips/products by electrically and optically characterizing VLSI integrated circuits and optoelectronic systems.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team on product improvements through Automatic Test Equipment (ATE), bench characterization, etc.
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) by collaborating with Design, Package, and Reliability Engineering.
  • Author and maintain customer facing validation reports and documentation.
  • Drive critical decisions around design trade off and spec relaxation to enable products to ship to customers.

  • Maintain schedule and execution so that product timelines can meet customer demand.

Requirements

  • Masters of Science degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with semiconductor lasers, photonics, system test, and validation.
  • Experience with component and system test equipment (Bit error rate tester, DCA, OSA, scope) and standard signal quality metrics used in optical standards (TDECQ, SRS, URS, etc).
  • Good programming skills (e.g. Python, C, etc).

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
