About the position

As a VDI Engineer at Warner Bros. Discovery, you will be responsible for architecting, designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining the company's virtual desktop platforms, primarily utilizing VMware Horizon. This role supports a diverse range of business stakeholders and workloads, ensuring high availability and performance of virtual desktop infrastructure across various global locations. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and business acumen to manage the entire VDI lifecycle effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, maintain, and support virtual desktop delivery platforms based on technical requirements.
  • Administer scalable virtual desktop infrastructure in both private and public cloud environments.
  • Manage and maintain Horizon View desktop pools, application pools, and user entitlements.
  • Handle Tier 3 (complex) issues providing advanced support and triage of end-to-end virtualized environments.
  • Provision and configure Horizon, Unified Access Gateway (UAG), connection servers, and end-user VDI desktop images.
  • Assist with critical patching and vulnerability remediations.
  • Create and maintain documentation and stay updated on industry best practices and technology trends.
  • Manage server hardware and storage solutions that support the VDI footprint.
  • Troubleshoot issues with desktop images and associated systems for rapid response to business units.
  • Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to ensure software performance and efficiency.
  • Ensure high levels of uptime and respond quickly to system alerts.
  • Implement and use monitoring, patch management, and application management tools.
  • Develop comprehensive performance analysis of business processes and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings to understand major projects and initiatives.
  • Develop disaster recovery or business continuity plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Systems Administration and/or End-User Computing role.
  • Experience in planning, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Horizon View, Connection Servers, and Unified Access Gateways.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11 Desktop operating systems.
  • Experience with Linux desktop operating systems.
  • Ability to analyze, optimize, and troubleshoot system performance issues in a desktop environment.
  • Experience with Active Directory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with vCenter and vSphere ESXi.
  • Experience with scripting/coding automation tools and technologies.
  • Experience in Azure cloud environments and Horizon Control Plane 2.0.
  • PowerCLI, PowerShell, Python, and/or Bash scripting coursework or experience is desirable.
  • MySQL/MSSQL experience is a plus.
