About the position

As a Senior Engineering Manager in PayPal's Enterprise AIML platform team, you will lead the development of the Next Generation Recommendation Engine. This role requires extensive technical expertise in AI solutions, guiding teams through functional definition, architecture, and integration within complex environments. You will be responsible for driving high-quality product delivery while mentoring team members and managing stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage the roadmap and priorities for AI/ML Products and the Recommendation Engine.
• Provide technical leadership and manage a high-performing engineering team.
• Hire and lead a diverse team of ML and software engineers.
• Ensure high code quality, performance, and reliability through rigorous testing and code reviews.
• Drive innovation by researching and incorporating state-of-the-art machine learning techniques.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define platform requirements and priorities.
• Develop and evolve engineering processes to optimize team efficiency.
• Mentor team members and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
• Stay updated with advancements in AI/ML technology and leverage this knowledge.

Requirements

• Proven experience in leading or managing machine learning/AI teams.
• Solid track record of over-achieving engineering and platform delivery targets.
• Masters or bachelor's in computer science, Computer engineering, Machine Learning, or related disciplines.
• Strong proficiency in machine learning concepts and hands-on experience in developing models.
• Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Unix/Linux Shell Scripting, Python, Java, Scala.
• Expertise in building data pipelines with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Kafka.
• Proficiency in SQL, ETL, and database design.
• Good understanding of NoSQL databases like HBase, Redis, Aerospike.
• Experience with machine learning libraries/frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies.

Nice-to-haves
