About the position

The Sr. Excess Casualty Underwriter Account Executive Officer at Travelers Insurance is a pivotal role that focuses on providing coverage against unforeseen catastrophic losses, particularly in the realm of excess casualty insurance. This position is designed for an individual who can partner effectively with agents and brokers to assess customer needs and deliver tailored insurance solutions. The Account Executive Officer (AEO) will be responsible for managing an assigned book of business, ensuring profitability, growth, and retention while navigating complex customer accounts. The AEO will act as a technical resource, leveraging their expertise to negotiate effectively and minimize risk while maximizing profitability. In this role, the AEO will cultivate and maintain strong relationships with both internal partners and external agents and brokers. Regular in-person meetings will be essential for marketing and selling Travelers products, with a focus on writing and retaining accounts that align with the company's risk appetite. The AEO will also be tasked with identifying new business opportunities through consultative marketing and sales strategies, independently developing and executing agency sales plans, and collaborating with the Managing Director to create regional sales strategies. Additionally, the AEO may assist in training and mentoring less experienced Account Executives, contributing to the overall development of the team. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a Bachelor's degree and have six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience, particularly in commercial lines. A deep understanding of commercial lines products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market is crucial. Strong critical thinking skills, excellent communication abilities, and a CPCU designation are also highly desirable. The AEO must be decisive, detail-oriented, and capable of building relationships that drive results in a challenging market environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and frequently partner with your Managing Director to develop region/group sales plans.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced Account Executives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in commercial lines.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial lines products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
  • Four years of underwriting experience.
