About the position

As a Senior Executive Underwriter or Executive Underwriter at The Hartford, you will play a pivotal role in the Financial Lines division, focusing on underwriting and actively pursuing new business opportunities. This position is integral to servicing the needs of our brokerage partners on an account-by-account basis, ensuring that we provide tailored coverage that meets the unique interests of our clients. You will be part of the Diversified/Financial Services Team, which specializes in management and professional liability products for public and large private financial services institutions. The products you will work with include primary and excess directors & officers liability, errors & omissions liability, fiduciary liability, and employment practices liability. Your role will require a customer-first mindset, where you will put our customers at the center of everything you do. You will be expected to make informed decisions by analyzing data and employing critical thinking skills. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with other underwriters and leaders, contributing your creative insights to the team. Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and actively pursue new business opportunities in Financial Lines.
  • Service the needs of brokerage partners on an account-by-account basis.
  • Collaborate with other underwriters and leaders to provide tailored coverage solutions.
  • Build and maintain solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Analyze data and employ critical thinking skills to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Demonstrate a customer-first mindset in all interactions and decisions.
  • Contribute to the Diversified/Financial Services Team's focus on management and professional liability products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 5+ years of financial lines underwriting experience; Financial Institutions underwriting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
  • Self-motivated to sell and market to Distribution Partners in the field.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
  • Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win.
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.
