About the position

As the Senior Facilities Engineer - Robotics/Automation at GE Appliances, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our manufacturing processes through automation. Your primary responsibility will be to identify and implement automation solutions across various manufacturing processes, including assembly, fabrication, and logistics. This role is crucial for streamlining operations, ensuring efficiency, and maintaining high product quality while adhering to both internal protocols and external regulations. You will take full technical ownership of your assigned area, focusing on the maintenance and improvement of physical equipment within the production environment. In this position, you will collaborate closely with a diverse team that includes Union skilled trades maintenance technicians, hourly Team Leaders, Process Improvement Engineers, and Quality and Business Leaders. Your expertise will be essential in making critical engineering decisions that align with the operational goals of the facility. You will lead and manage all technical aspects of your area, serving as the primary point of contact for any technical changes that impact Plant Operations and Leadership. Your role will also involve designing, simulating, installing, and monitoring automation processes to ensure they meet the highest standards of efficiency and safety. You will develop and direct a robust Preventive Maintenance plan, utilizing your skills in root cause analysis, PLC programming, and equipment troubleshooting. Additionally, you will provide hands-on training and guidance to the maintenance team and other staff on new processes and equipment, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Upholding safety standards and ensuring compliance with regulations will be a key aspect of your responsibilities, as will providing daily leadership to maintenance employees and promoting adherence to 5S practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all technical aspects of the assigned area, serving as the primary point of contact for any technical changes to Plant Operations & Leadership.
  • Design, simulate, install, and monitor automation processes, ensuring they meet the highest standards of efficiency and safety.
  • Develop and direct a robust Preventive Maintenance plan, leveraging expertise in root cause analysis, PLC programming, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Provide hands-on training and guidance to the maintenance team and other staff on new processes and equipment, ensuring smooth implementation and operation.
  • Drive process reliability through simplification, preventive maintenance, and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Uphold safety standards through Lock Out-Tag Out procedures and other safety protocols, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
  • Provide daily leadership to maintenance employees, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and adherence to 5S practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other technical Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proven Mechanical and Electrical/PLC Diagnostic and technical skills required.
  • Proven PLC Controls/Electrical troubleshooting a must.
  • Excellent computer skills particularly in programming and software development, specifically experience in programming robotic systems and writing PLC codes (Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, GE, and other industry standard PLC platforms for example).
  • Previous supervisory experience and/or experience working directly with high volume manufacturing Production Operations and Union Operators.
  • Ability to implement long-term plans into day-to-day operations.
  • Proven shop floor troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through coaching, training and positive influencing.
