About the position

As a Senior Field Service Engineer specializing in Lab Instrument Services, particularly in Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), you will play a crucial role in providing technical maintenance services in critical client environments. This position is part of CBRE's Full Spectrum Lab Services, which offers a comprehensive suite of services to clients in the life sciences industry, including pharmaceuticals, biotech, medical devices, and genomics. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, from the examination and repair of specialized equipment to the coordination of maintenance activities and troubleshooting of issues as they arise. In this role, you will be expected to take apart, clean, calibrate, and maintain various lab instruments, with a strong emphasis on GC/MS systems. You will operate test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes, and coordinate with external contractors for repairs covered by maintenance agreements. Your ability to document inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs will be essential in ensuring compliance with industry standards and client expectations. You will also be responsible for tracking instrument reliability and making recommendations for service and parts, thereby impacting the quality of your work and the overall service provided to clients. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to following standardized procedures to meet objectives and deadlines. You will be expected to lead by example, embodying CBRE's RISE values, and effectively communicate with both customer staff and external contractors. This role is remote but requires travel, and strong GC/MS experience is preferred to ensure you can meet the technical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Take apart, examine, clean, fix, calibrate, check, and take care of special equipment, systems, and controls, with special emphasis on Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)
  • Operate test equipment including multimeters, frequency generators, counters, galvanometers, digital logic probes, and oscilloscopes
  • Coordinate the removal of equipment requiring extensive repairs during scheduled maintenance periods
  • Troubleshoot, service or resolve problems while performing unscheduled work
  • Record and report abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance conditions of equipment and start corrective action and documentation if needed
  • Review and document daily records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed
  • Coordinate with external contractors on repairs covered by maintenance agreements
  • Communicate with customer staff and outside contractors about the calibration, repair, and operation of equipment
  • Locate part sources, estimate costs, and prepare requisitions
  • Track instrument and part reliability; make alternate service, supplier, and parts recommendations
  • Oversee the development of equipment, maintenance, and calibration procedures
  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values
  • Impact the quality of own work
  • Work within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
  • Exchange straightforward information, ask questions, and check for understanding

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 2-3 years of job-related experience
  • Must have appropriate license or certification where required by law
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more
  • Ability to use existing procedures to solve standard problems
  • Experience with analyzing information and standard practices to make judgments
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Organizational skills with a strong inquisitive mindset
  • Intermediate math skills, including the ability to calculate difficult figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations
