About the position

The Sr Field Service Engineer for Thermo Fisher Scientific's Materials and Structural Analysis Division is responsible for the on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment. This role involves ensuring customer satisfaction through effective troubleshooting, maintenance, and training, while also acting as a liaison between the company and its clients. The engineer will work closely with customers to meet their needs and will be expected to travel frequently to various sites.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment.
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance visits and follow testing procedures to ensure proper equipment functionality.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and field service personnel.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with customers and company personnel.
  • Complete technical training and seek additional learning opportunities.
  • Travel to customer sites to resolve issues or support other personnel as needed.
  • Complete and submit field service reports and documentation.
  • Train and mentor new field service engineers.

Requirements

  • University degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science, or a similar field preferred; or 1-5 years of equivalent experience.
  • 1-5 years of experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.
  • Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical issues and partner effectively with customers and colleagues.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, time management, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating O-scopes and digital voltmeters.
  • Knowledge of logical problem solving.
