About the position

The Sr. Finance/Accounting Manager position at CBRE is a pivotal role within the GWS Local service line, which focuses on providing tailored facility management solutions. This hybrid position based in New York City requires a strong leader who can manage financial operations while fostering effective client relationships. The role emphasizes the importance of accountability and efficiency in service delivery, ensuring that financial practices align with global standards and contractual commitments. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, contract governance, and the management of financial processes and procedures. This includes preparing comprehensive financial reports, managing cash flow, and ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory obligations. The position also involves leading the preparation of annual plans and forecasts, as well as driving financial performance through strategic analysis and benchmarking. Additionally, the role requires effective people management skills, as the Sr. Finance/Accounting Manager will be responsible for recruiting, developing, and motivating finance staff within the business unit. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality and effective client relationships across the Business Unit.
  • Build good working relationships with account management and key client members, acting as a business partner.
  • Manage contract governance, ensuring all cost elements are appropriately accounted for.
  • Participate in monthly formal Contract and Business unit reviews, focusing on underperforming contracts.
  • Prepare accurate Business Unit reports, including Profit & Loss accounts, Balance Sheet extracts, and detailed Project Profitability reporting.
  • Conduct ad-hoc reporting and financial analysis as requested by Divisional Finance Director or Business Unit Director.
  • Review and improve cash flow, margins, and reporting, developing targets and benchmarking processes.
  • Drive high-quality financial performance aligned with global contract management practices.
  • Review Contract and Business Unit P&L results and challenges.
  • Manage overheads for the business while seeking efficiencies for savings.
  • Build and develop relationships with business leaders, central finance teams, customers, and external agencies.
  • Communicate regularly with contract financial and support staff to ensure operational objectives are met.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures throughout the Business Unit/Contract.
  • Manage the integrity of data in Client reporting and GWS systems.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual bottom-up Plan and bi-annual forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with CBRE and statutory obligations for reporting and governance purposes.
  • Recruit, induct, manage, and develop the Business Operations Manager and other BU Finance Staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
  • Minimum of six years of related experience, including at least three years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Accounting and month-end close experience required.
  • CPA or MBA preferred but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SEC reporting is desired.
  • Knowledge of the real estate service industry and terminology is helpful.
